The Shape Of Becoming

In partnership with Freepik, we created The Shape of Becoming as the opening and closing titles for Upscale Conf. It tells the story of Emy, a determined young woman who follows a mysterious black cube that leads her into different universes governed by strange logic and ever-evolving rules. Emy moves from wonder to disorientation, from joy to fatigue, as the cube takes her through dreamlike digital landscapes, AI-generated cities, and emotional mirror-worlds.

The Shape of Becoming is a cinematic metaphor for our relationship with generative AI. It explores the exhilaration and exhaustion of keeping pace with innovation, capturing the beauty, chaos, and ambiguity of trying to hold onto something that is always becoming something else.

We shot with a real actress, trained a custom model in Flux, tested all the AI video tools (Kling 2.0 won), generated more than 5,000 images, extended the set with AI, integrated CGI, made over 10 versions of the edit, retouched color, upscaled everything to 4K, and composed an original soundtrack performed by real-life musicians.

Behind The Shape Of Becoming there were 25 human beings putting creativity, talent, and emotion into every detail.
